Dr. Norris is Professor, III, Career Academic Series, Department of Internal Medicine, and Associate Dean for Research of the Charles R. Drew University.
Dr. Norris is the editor-in-chief of the official journal of ISHIB, Ethnicity & Disease. He has co-authored over 100 articles and book chapters. His research interests include renal osteodystrophy, the epidemiology, prevention, and treatment of hypertension and chronic kidney disease, integrative medicine and the reduction of health disparities. He is active in community education around broad issues impacting minority health and is the principal investigator for the NIH funded Excellence in Partnerships for Community Outreach, Research on Health Disparities and Training Center (Project EXPORT), the NIH Comprehensive Center for Health Disparities for Chronic Kidney Disease, and the African American Study for Kidney Disease and Hypertension site at Drew.
Dr. Norris is presently the Principal Investigator for “Healthy African American Families”, a collaboration between community, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Drew and UCLA started in 1992 to overcome the negative perceptions and barriers that impede optimizing family health in the Los Angeles African American community. In 2000 he established a quarterly community-based educational forum in collaboration with the South Central Senior Citizens Multipurpose Group. He is a former member of the Board of Directors American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), an active member of the Board of Directors, Renal Physicians Association, and a member of the AAKP Medical Advisory Board.
