Throughout his medical career, Dr. Dallas Hall has made significant contributions to the advancement of the study of hypertension in minority populations. As one of the founding members of the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks, Inc. (ISHIB), his work has been punctuated by his involvement and continued support for research and dissemination of new information for physicians who treat minority populations. In 1997, Dr. Hall served as the co-chairman for the scientific planning committee for the 12th International Interdisciplinary Conference on Hypertension in Blacks, held in London, England.
Dr. Hall, a native of Georgia, completed college, medical school, internal medicine/chief residency and nephrology fellowship at Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. In 1976, he established a division of hypertension in the department of medicine at Emory University where he was named professor of medicine and director of the division. Dr. Hall served in those capacities until 1998 when he retired early as emeritus professor of medicine.
Dr. Hall has published three books (including Hypertension in Blacks), 76 book chapters and 111 original articles. He has been the principal investigator of several NIH clinical trials including Systolic Hypertension in the Elderly Program (SHEP), the African American Study of Kidney Disease (AASK), and the Women's Health Initiative (WHI).
In 1985, he served as president of the Georgia Affiliate of the American Heart Association, and between 1988-1998 was program director of the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at Emory.
Dr. Hall has served ISHIB in many capacities. He is a member of the board of trustees and past vice-president of the Society. He has served as the chair of the scientific review and awards committees.
