Plenary Sessions
Plenary sessions will explore the cardiovascular risk factors of the metabolic syndrome and their individual and collective impact on the health care of ethnic minority populations. They will be conducted in a lecture and panel format during which, presenters will address ethnic differences, analyze recent clinical trial data, and discuss the global burden of the metabolic syndrome. The sessions will evaluate the evolving, sometimes controversial, concepts such as true contributors and outcomes, prevalence and treatment, and components and pathophysiology. Specific topics include: Diabetes and Its Risk Factors: A True Outcome of the Metabolic Syndrome; Hypertension as a Manifestation of the Metabolic Syndrome; and Lipid Abnormalities with Metabolic Syndrome and Cardiovascular Disease.
