Unite for Healthy Hearts!
The goal of Unite for Healthy Hearts! is to increase public awareness of the harmful effects of high blood pressure and other cardiovascular-related diseases - diabetes, kidney disease, etc. - among ethnic minority populations. Unite for Healthy Hearts! accomplishes these goals through the following key components:
- Community Leaders Health Forum - Community leaders from faith-based communities, medical associations, hospitals and healthcare associations, school systems, media outlets, local sports figures and celebrities, educational institutions, businesses and government agencies are invited to attend an educational program focusing on information to prevent, control, and treat high blood pressure and related risk factors in ethnic communities. The forum seeks to identify, motivate, and educate community leaders to become ambassadors to advocate for heart health.
- Community Health Risk Assessments and Heart Health Education Day - A FREE one-day cardiovascular health risk assessment will include any or all of the following screenings: blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol. Follow up counseling for out of normal range participants will also be available. Additional counseling may include nutrition and prescription medication compliance counseling.
